Spreadtrum Co-Founder Forms VC Firm

Ping Wu, co-founder of China’s Spreadtrum Communications, has left to form VC firm Summitview Capital. Spreadtrum, which Wu steered for a decade as president, CEO and chairman, is a prime example of the emerging Chinese fabless chip movement. The company’s first products were chip sets for GSM handsets; now it focuses on chips for 3G phones, including those based on China’s TD-SCDMA standard.
