China Drives Interconnect to New Heights

China captured the attention of the world’s technorati in November when the Tianjin Supercomputer Center’s Tianhe-1a system was named the fastest computer in the world, at 2.5 petaflops. That’s head and shoulders above the second-place system, a 1.7-Pflops Cray installation at a U.S. national lab. Most of the credit goes to the anonymous engineering manager who led the design of a new chip.
