The safety of medical devices is a double edged sword. Certainly we wish to provide available cures and medical technologies to those who need them. On the other hand, we must be sure to do no harm ("primum non nocere"). Few manmade devices have reliability anywhere near the levels that we take for granted in our own bodies.
