One of my pet peeves has been about the lack of funding by major IC vendors in ventures that are part of the ecosystem. Funding for new ASIC startups has fallen off the cliff already, so it is good to see companies like ST thinking about startups in the value chain.

With that said, I think the $50M over 5 years doesn't measure up to a company of ST's size in revenue. This needs to be significantly larger (one of my former employers did get funding from Intel capital that was a double digit % of the $50M cited above; I heard back then they had invested in many others in even larger $$ figures).

It is good to see the ST is investing in our future. They are being broad with their investments, but they have to benefit ST. That makes sense. I hope they will be able to help small companies while helping themselves.
