The solar industry really needs great push for innovation to improve power efficiency. If it purely relies on mass producing of solar panels, China will win over due to lower costs.

It is difficult to see any barrier to entry that would hold back US installers from buying Chinese-manufactured products. There should be some home market dollars to earned in installation, though.
The no-cap design finalist's IP should bring in some licence income from Chinese outsourcing though, assuming IP can be enforced.
